AstroEye Planetarium
£39.99

If Patrick Moore has taught us anything (aside from his work on Gamesmaster… terrible business), its that the night sky is a tremendously beautiful thing. However, thanks to the omnipresent orange fug that covers our major cities, seeing it clearly is a bit of a struggle for those of us who dont live in the countryside. Thankfully, the AstroEye Planetarium projector is on hand to show us not only the wonders of the night sky, but of whole constellations and star systems. Its sort of like being in 2001: A Space Odyssey, but without the psychotic computer and ballet music. Simply pop this attractive spherical projector unit into its bowl-shaped holder, angle it up at the ceiling and turn it on. Immediately, youll be awe-struck as over 8,000 stars gently revolve around the room. There are two slide discs for you to play with, one with all the constellations marked on it and one without, if you fancy a more natural experience. With a five-speed control, you can control the speed of the rotation too. Its even date-sensitive, meaning that you can see the subtle movements of the stars from day to day. Best of all, a press of a button will send a shooting star flying across your universe (though hopefully it wont be replicated in reality - therell be meteors flying all over the place). It obviously works best at night or in a darkened room (we tried it out under a desk with mixed results) and is therefore brilliant as an alternative to a night-light or lamp, or makes lovely mood lighting. With a sleep function that allows you to doze off without having to worry about turning it off. Perfect for anyone wanting to learn about astrology, or those who want some interesting mood lighting, the AstroEye Planetarium crams the whole universe into your bedroom.
